How CWI press interviews work

This page is a CWI Press interview — a structured conversation, not a form letter. Black Lansky interviews subjects for press features himself: you answer at your own pace, everything saves automatically as you type, and when you’re done, the team writes the draft and sends you a review link before anything is published. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

The interview covers your story in chapters — who you are, what you do, and the moments that shaped it. There are no trick questions and no word counts; the best features come from specific, honest answers. Take your time, leave and come back, and say as much (or as little) as the story needs.

What happens after you submit

The draft. The press desk turns your answers into a feature draft — structured with the same care as the label’s own releases: verified facts, real quotes (yours, verbatim, never fabricated), and proper credits.

Your review. You get a private link to the draft. Change anything, cut anything, add anything — it’s your story until you approve it.

Publication. Once approved, the feature publishes in the CWI press room with NewsArticle schema, proper metadata, and distribution across the label’s channels.

Frequently asked

Do I have to finish in one sitting?

No — answers save automatically as you type. Leave, come back tomorrow, pick up where you left off.

Can I retract something after submitting?

Yes. Nothing publishes without your review, and even after publication, corrections and retractions are handled through the press desk.

Will my contact details be published?

No. Email and phone are for the press desk only — the published feature carries only what you approve for the story.

Why the slow interview

Most press runs on rushed calls and same-day turnarounds. CWI Press runs the other way: the subject gets the questions in writing, answers at their own pace, and reviews the draft before anything publishes. It’s slower, and the features are better for it — specific instead of generic, quotable because the quotes are real, and trusted because the subject signed off.

The method comes from the label’s standing rule on verification: every fact verified, no fabricated quotes, ever. An interview conducted at the subject’s pace produces a verbatim record; a verbatim record produces traceable quotes; traceable quotes produce press the subject will actually share. That’s the whole strategy.

What makes a good answer

Specificity. Names, dates, places, the thing that actually happened — the draft is built from concrete detail, not adjectives. If a question doesn’t apply, skip it; if the real story is somewhere else, tell that instead. The press desk would rather cut a great overlong answer than pad a thin one.

A note on the record

Every CWI Press feature follows the same publication standard as the label’s releases: verified facts, verbatim quotes, proper credits, NewsArticle schema, and a stable URL in the press archive. The subject’s review isn’t a courtesy — it’s the mechanism that keeps the record trustworthy.

Take your time with the questions above — the best features are built from unhurried, specific answers. Everything saves as you type, and the draft comes back to you before anything publishes.

Your words, verbatim

The draft is written from a verbatim record of your answers — every quote traceable to the exact words you said. That’s the Byline method: no paraphrase passed off as quotation, no meaning edited in transit. You review the draft, you approve the quotes, and only then does the feature publish.
