What is ISRC in music?
ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the unique 12-character fingerprint of a specific recording — not the song, the recording. Format: QZDA52303345 = country (QZ) + registrant (DA5) + year (23) + designation (03345).
Why it matters
- Royalties: ISRCs are how plays get tracked and paid. Wrong ISRC = lost money.
- Sync licensing: a brief names a track; the ISRC proves it's the right recording. Same song, different recording = different ISRC.
- Anti-confusion: remixes, remasters, and re-recordings each get their own ISRC. The code ends arguments.
How to find a song's ISRC
- On Spotify (desktop): right-click track → Share → Copy link → paste into an ISRC lookup tool.
- Distributor dashboards: DistroKid, TuneCore, and others show ISRCs per release.
- Ask our engine: every track in the CWI catalog carries a verified ISRC — query by title.
